Is Sea-Doo or Yamaha jet ski better?

Choosing a jet ski to buy is a pretty big decision, which is why most people do their research and rent the waverunner/watercraft before purchase. There are a lot of things to take into consideration, and you don’t want to go into such a large money item without knowing your in’s and out’s.

While we can’t rent the jet ski for you, we can provide a rental location: San Diego Jet Ski Rentals.

What’s more is that we can provide you with some useful information. Let’s do some compare and contrast explanations below. From there, you’ll be closer to a decision; we’re sure of it!

When it comes to seats …

The least expensive version of the Sea Doo can hold anywhere from two to three people on board at a time, whereas the more expensive ones typically only have two seats. Sea Doo’s, in general, are slimmer to allow for more movement on the water. There are one-seater’s in stock, but these act as standing jet skis.

The Yamaha waverunners can fit one to three people aboard. Though there are more style selections with Yamaha, they no longer make standing versions. You can still purchase a used one, if you get your hands on it.

And the prices …

Sea Doo has a range of options, but their least expensive ranges around $5,400. Accessories are also available at great prices.

Yamaha Waverunner’s start at around $7,000 and come with a rather high horsepower, mirrors, a large gas tank, and plenty of storage.

Each brand can go upwards in price to about $18,000 per jet ski.

When it comes to speed …

The least expensive Sea Doo can drive on the water at speeds up to 50 mph. Vroom vroom, that’s fast! If you enjoy racing, you can opt for the Sea Doo RXP-X300 which can reach speeds of up to 70 mpg. Even still, the fastest in the brand is known as the Sea-Doo RXP-X255 with a 255-horsepower engine allowing you to go from 0 to 55 in under 3 seconds.

On the other hand, The least expensive Yamaha can also go up to 50 mph. But instead of using this bad boy for racing, you’ll want to use it for a more enjoyable, fun time on the open water. If you go up in selection, you can spend a little bit more money and grab a Yamaha that can easily hit 65 mph. Speedy options are available.

And the comfort …

Unfortunately, here is where the Sea Doo cracks down on costs – their comfort level is not-so-high. The newer models are very affordable for your pockets, but they do come with a plastic seat. The only way to get the utmost comfort is to purchase a GTR 230.

As far as Yamaha WaveRunner’s go, they come equipped with padded, 2-piece seats for extra comfort. If you’re looking to hop aboard longer rides, a Yamaha may be the way to go to maximize comfort with great cushions.

The weight …

When considering jet skis, the weight always plays a part – even if it’s just a tiny part. The Sea Doo’s range in at about 450 lbs each for the popular Spark and about 824 lbs each for the newer version known as the RXP-X300.

On the other hand, Yamaha’s smallest jet ski, known as the Ex, weighs about 578 lbs. Their newer model, known as the FX Cruiser SVHO, weights in at about 820 lbs.

Consider how you’ll be transporting this bad boy before you purchase a hefty version.
